The Court directed lawyers practicing in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore to pay their juniors a minimum monthly stipend of ₹20,000.
Lawyers practicing before any court in other cities across Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry should pay their juniors a minimum monthly stipend of ₹15,000.
Such amount has been calculated taking into account the taking into consideration “the cost of living and expenditure costs prevalent as on today,” the Court said.
The bench also said that in its circulars, the TN Bar Council must mention that there should not be any discrimination on the grounds of gender in payment of the monthly stipends to lawyers.
