Reccy Adventures, a start-up that caters to the growing population of adventure sports and fitness enthusiasts, who aspire to lead an active lifestyle, has raised INR 3 crore in a seed round, from the founders of Rebel Foods – Jaydeep Barman and Kallol Banerjee.
Brainchild of a group of passionate adventure and outdoor enthusiasts from different walks of life, Reccy has indicated that the funds raised will be used on aggressive headcount expansion, as well as developing their product range. Reccy shall offer a slew of products and services, ranging from e-commerce in the activewear, accessories, and gear space, to discovery and booking of outdoor and adventure activities, to access to coaching, training, competitions, local sports, recovery, and rehabilitation, as well as sport-specific communities. The brand has recently launched the beta version of a discovery and booking platform for adventure and outdoor activities. Next up for them is the introduction of a new range of outdoor-focused activewear range.
Speaking of the investment, Anirban Sen, Co-founder, Reccy Adventures said, “We have seen some great interest and growth since we set out, and this investment will help us build the sports-and-outdoor category in India. Our first product is a one-stop destination for anybody who is thinking of an outdoor or adventure trip, from discovery of something new, to delivery of the experience”, adding “No-frills backpacking trips are popular amongst students and younger thrill-seekers, while full-service experiential options are demanded by families and more experienced travelers. We have brought the entire stakeholder ecosystem onto one platform, in order to facilitate ease-of-experience”.
Opining on the funding Jaydeep Barman, Co-founder & CEO, Rebel Foods stated, “We see huge potential for the category with Indians looking at options to break out of their sedentary routines. As an ardent mountaineer and footballer, I can vouch for the fact that Reccy with its range of products and services will change the way that sports and outdoors are viewed in India”.
A recent InterMiles survey showed that almost 65% of 11,500 Indian travelers look forward to leisure and adventure travel this year, with the rollout of vaccination. While 2020 witnessed the rise of essential travel, the new and evolved 2021 Indians are looking for adventure and are keen on exploring new destinations, in an attempt to break away from the monotony of 2020, as the pandemic restricted movement, according to InterMiles second travel survey.
