Samir Shah Launches Peak 100 Million Dollar Sustainability Venture Fund

Peak Sustainability Venture Fund believe sustainability is ripe for producing several unicorns over the next decade.

Technology and innovation are redefining the opportunity set for investors in this space. They have the domain expertise necessary to understand the nuances and achieve high-risk adjusted returns in this rapidly evolving space.

Peak Sustainability Venture Fund is an INR 750 crore (~$100M) early-stage, sustainability-focused venture capital fund, run by the principals of Sattva Capital, one of the most active sustainability venture investors in India over the last six years.

Peak Sustainability Venture Fund believe sustainability is ripe for producing several unicorns over the next decade. They are early-stage investors who help small businesses and entrepreneurs raise Series A or Seed fundings to expand their businesses. They not only have funded Indian startups but also have infused funds in overseas business (approximately 75% of funds are being landed in India and 25%  around the globe so far).

Sectors targeted by Investors

As Peak has launched a ‘Sustainability Venture Fund’ for the early-stage investments they are focusing on sectors like energy, climate, water, and agriculture.

Energy Companies working on energy efficiency, resource intensity reduction, lowering carbon emissions, and waste-to-energy are all compelling opportunities.

Agriculture Solutions focused on key challenges in topsoil protection, post-harvest management, supply-chain efficiency and alternative proteins are the focus.

Water Innovations in water purification and water management, desalination (and reducing associated costs), recycling/re-use of water are key focus areas.

Climate Air pollution, water pollution, land degradation, land-use change, single-use plastics and loss of biodiversity are all issues of keen interest

Leadership Team

Peak Sustainability Venture Fund is led by experienced team members who have years of experience in the sector. 

Samir Shah, Managing Partner, IC Member: Samir is extremely passionate about sustainability, and has a deep knowledge of Peak’s core sectors, through his investments, operating positions and industry affiliations over the past decade. He has 28+ years of experience in investing, and teaches a course on Sustainability, Business and society at Ahmedabad University.

Aakash Shah, Partner, IC Member: Aakash uses his venture investing experience in sustainability and emerging tech, combined with his operational experience in startups to scale companies at the intersection of tech and sustainability.

Karan Mehta, Principal: Passionate about “re-wilding the Earth”, Karan previously spent 8 years at responsibility AG, a $3.4Bn asset manager, as an Investment Officer in Sustainable Food and Agriculture for APAC.
