Twitter Appoints Grievance Redressal Officer

Dharmendra Chatur, who is representing Twitter at the Delhi High Court has been appointed the interim grievance redressal officer. The government is yet to respond to this appointment.

Amidst the back and forth regarding the novel IT rules between the government and the social media companies, Twitter India has finally appointed a grievance redressal officer. Dharmendra Chatur, who is representing Twitter at the Delhi High Court has been appointed the interim grievance redressal officer. The government is yet to respond to this appointment.

On its Website, Twitter says, “Submitting requests through our support forms will ensure that they are routed to the appropriate team and processed expeditiously. More information is available in the Help Center.” It has mentioned two grievance redressal officer locations, one in Karnataka India, and the other is in California USA. At the same time, it clarifies that this is not a portal for law enforcement. Talking about the kind of reporting that can be done, Twitter says “You can report directly from an individual Tweet, List, or profile for certain violations, including spam, abusive or harmful content, inappropriate ads, self-harm, and impersonation.”

While social media giants put forth the argument that the new rules will lead to mass surveillance and curbing India’s sovereignty, the government puts forward the point of citizen’s security.
