Over the years, many advertising campaigns have made an impact on mass audiences and advocated for peace between the nations. Emotional stories told through India-Pakistan ads have always touched hearts and brought about a positive change.
Over the years, brand campaigns have spoken about similarities between neighboring countries India-Pakistan on various occasions, celebrating unity and companionship across borders. These ads have successfully elicited an emotional response and created a high recall value for brands.
From 8PM Whiskey’s ad focusing on soldiers at the border to Google’s reunion ad of two old friends meeting for the first time after partition, some ads have remained in our collective memories for years.
A common thread that is palpable across all these ads is the prominence of humanity and the hope for a better future. These campaigns advocate the essence of being human and the fact that all other identities i.e., race, gender, religion, etc. come after that. The messaging that’s inherent in these ads is that people across borders have more similarities than what we have been led to believe.
When Google came up with its “Reunion” ad in 2013, it received widespread acclaim and had a substantial impact in both India and Pakistan. It led to talks of easing travel restrictions between the countries. And even before it was released on television, it went viral and received 1.6 million views.
