Hello, I am Kavita from Bangalore. I am an MCA graduate and have 10 years of experience. I started my career with GENPACT in 2005 as a Process Associate in IT. I worked in Multiple roles as SME, Trainer, and as Dialer in GENPACT Hyderabad. I then moved to Bangalore and joined Concentrix as an Assistant Manager in 2010 and handled New Sales Project VBHC (Value-Based Housing Corporation). This was one of my challenging roles, which included hiring the right candidates for training and mentoring the team. Since I had an experience in Dialer, I also worked with the Dialer Team and planned the day’s beginning estimations as per the client’s requirement. The process started with 8 team members and grew to 30 members, and went 24/7 since the VBHC project was launched in other states of India as well. After 2 years of work experience, I moved to Hewlett Packard Inc. as an Individual Contributor in the Cost Management Team as a Procurement Analyst.

I have taken a break from work because of my personal commitments. I was always passionate about Data Analytics and Data Science. Then I decided to start my Data science journey. After a lot of research, I came to know about Great Learning. I was impressed with the course curriculum and determined to join the PGP-Data Science and Business Analytics, offered by Great Learning in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin (McCombs School of Business).

The journey was definitely not an easy one, as I had to manage between work, family, and weekend classes. Well, all these challenges were well-handled with great support from Mentors, Great Learning Faculty associates, and Industry Experts.

The PGP-DSBA course content is well designed systematically in a step-by-step approach on a weekly basis. The course content comes with a perfect blend of relevant theoretical and practical knowledge. The practice quizzes and weekly quizzes refresh the concepts, and we can identify our areas for improvement. By the time we finish the theory part of a particular course, the project is timely aligned, so while doing the project, I felt confident about the topics. In short, the course content was designed to offer on-the-job training and experience.

Mentored learning sessions play a great role in honing the skills of Data Science and Analytics. The Mentors at Great Learning are knowledgeable with Industry Experience. The weekly mentoring sessions re-capitulate concepts and fill the gap, if any.
Mr. Dinesh Kumar was our Mentor. He was well-versed and knowledgeable and had an amazing ability to explain the concepts in a simplified manner. I feel that mentoring sessions are not merely a revision of the pre-session videos, but they are actually an extension of the concepts from an industry perspective.

It was a wonderful experience learning with Great Learning mentors through sessions that were very engaging and interactive with full of excitement and fun.

Mentor support plays an extremely crucial role in the learning journey. The Mentors were always reachable, especially Mr. Surya Prakash Raju, who was our Capstone Mentor and extended his support by clearing our doubts throughout the Journey.

I am thankful to all our Mentors, Dinesh Kumar, Karuna Kumari, Animesh Tiwari, and Surya Prakash Raju, who have helped me and the entire batch not just through the sessions but also by sharing the extra knowledge and approach to make sure that the concepts are clearly understood then and there.

My Key accomplishments are:
I’ve equipped myself with the necessary knowledge and skillsets to make a career shift that aligns with the jobs of the future in the Data Science field. I had an opportunity to work on on-the-job projects and perform to the best of my abilities. The highlight of the program was the Hackathon and Capstone project, where we learned how to deal with real-world business problems, and this challenging task boosts our energy to do more in a real environment. And last but not least, Great Learning has done a wonderful job in terms of knowledge transfer and transition in career path and assisting in achieving desires in Data Science and Business Analytics.

My advice to all those who are thinking of joining this course or are already halfway into DSBA. “This is the perfect choice you have made, and no matter what background you belong to, Data Analytics is an essential part of any Industry today.”

Make the best use of mentoring sessions to clear all your queries and build on whatever is learned. Start applying even a small concept learned in your workplace. Only through the application can we understand more, and we can retain the learning. Attend all industry sessions so that we will know the actual real-life applications of learned concepts.

In the initial stage, look more for intangible benefits you reap out of the course rather than for tangible benefits. Eventually, the ROI will be tremendous, more than what you had anticipated.

After completing this course, you can either make a switch to a Data Analytics or Data Science career or can use data mining tools in your current industry for bringing new insights to the table by handling large chunks of data effectively. Data-driven decisions will help you stand out from others.
