Version 1 : Chicken Kulambu Recipe

1)First grind the masala. Take coconut, roasted gram dal (pottu kadalai), black pepper, fennel seeds in a blender

2)Puree fine, Set that aside.

3)In a pressure cooker, heat oil. Add in cardamom, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick and bay leaf

4)Add in curry leaves

5)Add in chopped onions and shallots

6)Saute for 5 min.

7)Add ginger garlic paste

8)Saute them for couple of mins.

11)Add in coriander powder,garam masala powder and chilli powder

Version 2: Chicken Kulambu Recipe

Over the years i have shared so many chicken curry recipes on this blog. This one is a very basic chicken curry which i make often in my home. It is very easy to make and taste just yum. I used Nattu kozhi (country chicken) to make this curry and it turns out to be delicious.

This curry can be served with rice, roti, idli or dosa as well. Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 1 hour
Serves: 5 to 6

Ingredients:

Chicken – 1 kg ( I used nattu kozhi)
Salt to taste
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp

For Curry:

Oil – 3 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai – 2 small stick
Cardamom – 6 to 8
Cloves – 6 to 8
Fennel Seeds / Sombu / Saunf – 1 tsp
Mace – 1 piece
Bay Leaf or Pandan Leaf – 1
Shallots / Sambar Onion – 20 chopped
Tomatoes -3 large chopped
Green Chilli – 3 slit
Curry leaves a handful
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tblspn
Chilli Powder – 1 tblspn
Coriander Powder – 3 tblspn
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tblspn
Coconut – 1 cup grated
Coriander leaves a handful chopped finely
Curry leaves a handful

Chicken Kulambu Preparation

  1. Take cleaned chicken, salt, turmeric in a pressure cooker. Pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistle for normal chicken and for nattu kozhi cook for 6 whistle and simmer for 10 to 15 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and set aside.
  2. Grind coconut into a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add all whole spices and pandan leaf if using. Mix well.
  4. Add in shallots, curry leaves, green chillies and mix well.
  5. tomatoes goes in and cook that till it gets mushy.
  6. Add in ginger garlic paste and mix that well as well.
  7. Now add in spice powders and mix well.
  8. Add the cooked chicken along with juices and mix well.
  9. Add in salt and coconut paste and mix well.
  10. Simmer this for 15 mins till oil separates on top.
  11. Add coriander leaves, curry leaves and mix well.
  12. Serve with rice.
