Ingredients for Coconut Halwa Recipe

Dessicated Coconut

Desiccated coconut is flaked or shredded coconut flesh that has been dried.

Cashews

Cashews contain a lot of starch, which will thicken sauces just like flour and potatoes do. The use of cashews over flour, for example, has the advantage of adding a lot of flavour to the sauce.

Raisins

Raisins are dried grapes. These are grown in many parts of the world and can be eaten raw or cooked, baked, or brewed.

Cardamom Powder

Cardamom Powder is an all-natural spice that can be used to sweeten dishes as well as flavour coffee and tea. It  is also used in traditional Indian and Middle Eastern cooking, as well as Scandinavian baking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is halwa Indian or Arabic?

The word “halwa” is derived from the Arabic word “Hulw,” which means “sweet,” and is thought to have entered the English language between 1840 and 1850. According to Abdul Halim Sharar, a 20th- century author and historian, Halwa originated in Arabic lands and travelled to India via Persia.

What is Indian halwa made of?

A halwa is made with flour, semolina, grains, or nuts and is garnished with nuts. It is also known as aluva, chalava, halva, and other names. Traditionally, it was made with semolina/rawa, seeds, and nuts, but in recent years, we’ve seen many variations, including vegetables and fruits.
