About the Conference
In the wake of the International Maritime Organization’s commitment and long history of protecting the marine environment from the impact of shipping, the theme for World Maritime Day 2023 is chosen as ‘MARPOL at 50-Our Commitment Goes On’.
In harmony with these initiatives, the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and the Cochin University Maritime Club, in collaboration with ICAR – Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT), Kochi and Society of Fisheries Technologists (India)[SOFTI], Kochi is organising a two-day International Maritime Conference – “International Maritime Conference on Marine Conservation & Sustainability: Celebrating 50 Years of MARPOL,” on 19 and 20 October 2023 in Hybrid mode.
The conference aims to discuss on important issues related to marine conservation and sustainability in the context of MARPOL’s 50th anniversary.
This interdisciplinary conference is a dynamic platform for scholars, researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, and students to convene and engage in thoughtful discourse. Join us on the 19th and 20th of October 2023 as we explore the intricate interplay of maritime law, environmental preservation, marine pollution mitigation, and the sustainable management of our oceans’ resources.
The International Maritime Conference on Marine Conservation & Sustainability promises to be an enlightening and consequential event for all attendees, dedicated to shaping a more sustainable future for our oceans and coastal communities.
Eligibility Criteria
This conference is open to all students, researchers and academicians from the fields of law, marine sciences, fisheries and any field related to the theme of the conference.

The conference is an attempt to explore the environmental, socio-economic, legal and trade concerns in the light of various disciplines overlapping with the central theme of the conference under discussion and would inter alia explore topics identified as themes below:

NB: The themes given above are only indicative and not exhaustive. There is no limitation on the themes mentioned above.
Submission Guidelines
- Participants can register for the conference for Paper Presentation. The submissions are accepted for papers. 3000 – 6000 words is the limit, exclusive of footnotes.
- The word limit for abstracts is 400 (excluding keywords).
- Participants must submit abstracts in Word (.doc/.docx) documents containing the name, Email address, contact information and designation of the author(s).
- The maximum limit is two authors for each paper. All participants are permitted to enjoin as co-authors to a maximum of one paper only.
- Potential contributors must adhere to a uniform mode of citation (Bluebook 21st Edition).
- Plagiarism is not encouraged or accepted. We expect all original and properly cited submissions.
