The petition claimed that both the leaders were trying to spoil the atmosphere of Varanasi by hurting religious sentiments through their controversial comments obout the ‘Shiva Linga’ alleged to be found inside the Gyanvapi Mosque.
Pandey had argued that despite the Supreme Court not commenting on the matter, these leaders were trying to instigate the emotions of the people for the purpose of votes.
The plea further stated that the leaders ‘hurt the sentiments’ of Hindus with their ‘objectionable remarks’ on the Shiva Linga’.
