High time State government uses E-filing system: Bombay High Court refuses to take hard copies in environmental PIL

The PIL filed by NGO Vanashakti sought directions to transfer over 1,500 hectares of mangrove land in possession of various departments of the State, to the forest department of the Maharashtra government.

After Advocate GS Hegde expressed his wish to file an affidavit, a Bench of Justices GS Patel and Gauri Godse objected to the use of paper, calling it “incongruous.”

“Mr Hegde wishes to file an affidavit. We decline to take hard copies. It is incongruous that in an environmental PIL that seeks to protect wetlands, and filed by a social action group that seeks to protect forests, more and more paper is being used like this,” the Court said.
