If lawyers go on strike, meet CJI against every Collegium decision, where will it lead to: Law Minister Kiren Rijiju

The Law Minister was speaking at the felicitation of newly sworn-in CJI DY Chandrachud by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

Rijiu also underlined the importance of strengthening Bar Councils and on the necessity of opinion of individuals lawyers not taking precedence over the opinion of the institution.

“If we have to ensure that Indian judiciary remains robust, then not only courts but bar councils have to be strengthened. There is danger when an individual tries to take prominence over the institution. What should matter is opinion of the institution. Conduct of lawyers is crucial to maintain the independence of judiciary. there have been instances where an individual opinion of a lawyer has gained prominence over that of the Bar Council of India,” he said.
