How did you Apply?
The application process is quite simple. I applied by dropping my CV and Cover Letter at careers@mplegal.in. I interned under Advocate- High Court of Telangana MK Pasha.
First-Day & Role
From the moment I stepped into the law office i.e., 26.06.2023, I was greeted with an air of professionalism and an intense work environment.
I was assigned to a team of experienced Advocates who would serve as my mentors throughout the internship-MK Pasha Sir- Principle Managing Partner-Legal at MP Legal Associates; Harsha Betala Ma’am-Senior Associate; Suresh Sir-Junior Associate. Initially, my responsibilities revolved around conducting legal research and preparing case briefs.
Though seemingly mundane tasks, they allowed me to familiarise myself with legal documents, legal terminologies, Filing procedures, Court procedures, and various aspects of litigation.
Thus, the welcoming atmosphere with goodies (Diary, Pen &Mug) allowed me to work comfortably and seek clarifications without any fear. And a special mention to Pasha sir for spending much time on interns and making them understand the basic legal aspects of civil litigation. My first day at the firm was incredible, and each subsequent day proved to be even more thrilling than the last.
Legal Research & Writing Skills
The most significant aspect of my internship was the emphasis on legal research and writing. The office provided access to the Manupatra, enabling me to examine precedents, statutes, and relevant case law. By meticulously scrutinizing legal sources and synthesizing information, I developed a keen eye for identifying and analyzing key legal issues.
Furthermore, the internship honed my writing skills as I drafted petitions and briefs. These exercises allowed me to articulate complex legal arguments with clarity, and precision.
The feedback and guidance I received from my mentors proved invaluable in refining my writing style and understanding the importance of persuasive communication within the legal profession.
Professional Etiquette and Ethics
During my internship, I witnessed firsthand the strict adherence to confidentiality, the emphasis on maintaining client trust, and the importance of upholding the rule of law. These experiences deepened my understanding of the ethical implications of legal practice and instilled in me a sense of accountability as a future legal professional.
Other Works
- Doing the work of a full-fledged Lawyer like Drafting, Writing & Filing petitions, Extensive Research, etc. during their internship period itself, which enhanced their overall exposure, provided on-the-job training & most importantly converted their Academic Experience into a Practical Experience.
- Visiting Courts to observe proceedings relating to the matters they worked on & client interactions.
- Treating the interns exactly like Associates, Pasha sir is ensuring that they prepare them to brace for the challenges of becoming an Advocate, much earlier in their careers.
- The firm also carries out activities such as the MP Legal Fitness Challenge through which interns are made to comprehend the significance of a healthy lifestyle & are also rewarded for the same.
Stipend
This firm does not pay any of its interns any stipend, but if you incur any expenses in the course of your internship in regard to the firm’s work, the senior himself will call you and pay you.
Conclusion
Barney Baszuro once said interns are like uncut diamonds, waiting to be shaped and polished and following the same even though I had a similar experience. I was barely familiar with the litigation world before taking up this internship, but eventually, it turned out to be my first exposure and quite an experience. My one-month internship under MP Legal Associates was fruitful. I came across plenty of legal issues that are very important to know for a law student and any responsible and aware citizen.
This internship has also proved to be a kind of revision month for me, where I got the chance to go through the basics of legal nitty-gritty again. I firmly believe that I utilized the available opportunity to the fullest and learned skills that will surely help me in the future.
In addition to learning legal skills, I also got familiar with the work ethics and social dynamics of the field. It was fulfilling to work under a mentor who constantly and vigilantly kept giving feedback and constructive criticism and endowed me with important responsibilities without undermining me or considering me merely an intern. Hence, I can sincerely conclude that the time spent during my internship was definitely worthwhile and a fruitful experience.
