About the Opportunity
UN Women is currently implementing a program to forge and strengthen multi-sectoral partnerships in Assam, India (in the Tea estates) to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic through targeted interventions to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic and enhance women workersβ health, wellness, and safety in the tea sector, by focusing on the following Outcome and Outputs 1, 2 and 3 to generate best practices and lessons learned to inform a gender-responsive COVID-19 recovery:
Outcome: Locally owned womenβs health, wellness, and safety solutions identified and implemented
- Output 1: The capacity of partners enhanced womenβs health and well-being and measures to respond to escalating risks related to VAWG during COVID 19.
- Output 2: Multi-stakeholder partnership platforms strengthened to identify and implement womenβs health, wellness, and safety solutions
- Output 3: Local data available on the impact of COVID 19 on women and girls in the tea sector in selected intervention areas in Assam
To help in the achievement of these outcomes, UN Women in India seeks to hire for the job role of Consultant to work as a Trainer for Gender Sensitization and Gender Laws, in Assam.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UN Women Programme Specialist, the consultant will have the following specific terms of reference (ToR). The Consultant will be responsible for the following:
- Develop a methodology and corresponding tools and session plans to carry out the training for the executives of select tea estates of Assam.
- Compiling case laws, identifying areas of intersection among various laws applicable to the context of the program being implemented by UN Women, and sharing the compendium with UN Women.
- The participantsβ assessment indicates their understanding pre-and post-training using questionnaires developed in consultation with UN Women.
- Documenting the training workshop and preparing a detailed report of each training, including the list of participants.
Deliverable 1: A Detailed work plan and methodology for the workshop to inform a gender-responsive COVID-19 recovery and laws such as the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013 and other relevant laws in the sector. Tools, presentations, and case laws contextualized to UN Womenβs program focus areas to be compiled and shared with UN Women.
Deliverable 2: Execution of the pieces of training in select locations in Assam.
- Conduct several training workshops for executives from select tea estates for a specified duration in Assam.
- Conduct a number of training workshops for sub-staff, each stationed at the tea estates (2 days duration).
- Conduct pieces of training (1 in each cluster of two tea estates) for factory workers and assistants (2 days duration).
- Conduct 2 trainings (1 in each cluster of three tea estates) for hospital and school staff (2 days duration).
Deliverable 3: Reports of each workshop, including schedule, list of participants, and assessment of the pre-test and post-test questionnaires reflecting changes in participantsβ awareness.
Eligibility Criteria
Education:
- Bachelorsβ Degree in Law/Social Work/Gender Studies.
Experience:
- Previous knowledge and experience of laws/minimum 5 years of professional experience as a practicing lawyer.
- Previous demonstrable experience in training on women-related laws.
- Experience in working on gender-related issues is desirable.
- Experience of working in the development sector is desirable.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English and Hindi is required
- Knowledge of Assamese is an asset
