On September 5, Governor of Gujarat – Acharya Devvrat appointed Justice Thaker as a Chairman of the GSHRC.
“After obtaining the recommendation from the Committee comprising of the Chief Minister, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Minister of State for Home, I (Governor) hereby appoint Justice Thaker as the Chairman of the GSHRC,” the appointment warrant reads.
As per the warrant, Justice Thaker has been appointed for a period of three years or up to the age of 70, whichever is earlier.
Apart from Justice Thaker, the Governor also appointed Bharatkumar Suryakant Upadhyay, a former principal district judge as the Member of the GSHRC.
