Good things about the University based on your personal experience
The infrastructure is laudable and the campus is quite eco-friendly and peaceful.
We have a mentor-mentee program in our university, where two or three first year students are allotted a senior from fourth or fifth year as a mentors.
DSNLU has various committees and centers that gives opportunities to the university students to engage in various branches of law.
The university as a whole is striving for development, and a lot of new effort, programs, ideas are being brought in regularly for improving the University.
The batch size is nearly 138, it can give an advantage in terms of having healthy competitions, and having a diverse skillset, and it gives a student better exposure.
Novice category moot is compulsory for all the freshers and students are encouraged to participate in various National and International moots and other competitions.
We get a lot of time to pursue our other co-curricular and extra curricular activities apart from academics.
Bad things about the University based on your personal experience
- The university is not located in the judicial capital of the state and the campus is located twenty two kilometers away from the main city, which further adds to the locational disadvantage.
- The management can at times become a little irresponsive to the needs of the students.
- The university is still in a developing stage.
- Hostels are good but may not be good for a person who is expecting a three star hotel level accommodation.
- Placement is average.
How’s the faculty?
The feedback on the faculty is mixed. In terms of classes conducted in online mode, it has both exceptional as well as average Faculty.
Exceptional here refers to those who put in extra efforts to make the students get engaged in the lectures. No faculty is supposedly bad and everyone is ready to help out the students.
It somehow depends on the student’s dedication in class and seriousness towards academics.

How’s the infrastructure? Mention some of the things that exist.
The infrastructure is really good here. The campus is really vast, surrounded by green mountains. It gives a peaceful environment that a stressed law student deserves.
The university has a fully air-conditioned academic block (with projectors and PAS) and a library. The e-library has subscriptions of everything that a student needs.
DSNLU has a moot court hall, seminar and conference hall. It also has a large mess area and a canteen. There is a basket ball court, two badminton courts and there is a health room along with an ambulance.

How’s your hostel experience?
Staying in hostels is compulsory for all the students, I haven’t been to the hostels but from what I have heard from my seniors is that the hostels are okayish and one will not have any issues with the hostels.
The rooms are allotted on a twin sharing basis. The hostel has a solar powered hot water provision along with R.O. for drinking water / WI-FI and LAN facilities are available.
Air conditioners (there won’t be any need) / induction stove/ electronic kettle etc. are not allowed. A locker, a cart and a table will be provided to every student.
There was supposedly laundry service provided before CoVID. I am not sure what will be the case once the pandemic ends. Both girls and boys hostels have an attached gym and a table tennis playing area.

How are your peers?
The peer atmosphere is really good in DSNLU, especially when it comes to seniors. There is no sir/madam culture between the seniors and the juniors (it is highly discouraged by the peers).
The seniors are ready to help out their juniors with their problems as well as give advice to them.
As the batch size is big, students with diverse backgrounds and ideologies are present here and there are high possibilities that one might find people with similar interests (some times also leads to unnecessary debates).
The peer group here has a healthy competitive mindset. Like any other place you will find all kinds of people as in academic oriented, athletic oriented, and the ones who aren’t interested in academics but something else, it is them to decide what they want to do.

How are the placements in your college?
Placement is not good here and it is a problem for corporate lovers who opt for this university. There is a placement cell in the university, an initiative by the students themselves.
The placement starts from 4th year and the university placement cell provides a better outlook for the students to explore themselves. The placement percentage is 90%. The average placement is of 6 lakh per annum.

How are the co-curriculars in your college?
The university has an excellent co-curriculars atmosphere. DSNLU hosts its flagship international moot competition and debate competition annually.
A lot of students represent our university in various national and international debates, moots, mediations, mock trials, judgement writing, client counselling, arbitration moots and other such competitions.
There is a dedicated cultural committee (that conducts fests and cultural activities occasionally) and a society for literature and debating (that conducts parliamentary debates, literature events including book clubs, movie screenings) is also present.
The university has Asia’s best debaters/adjudicators and some exceptional mooters who train their juniors for such competitions.
The university has a moot court society which conducts intra moots and open challenges for all moot and ADR competitions, Drshtikon (a political and public policy discussion platform for students is also there).
There is a photography committee called Zoom Inc. DSNLU that captures events of the University and also releases a monthly magazine. There is a student news letter committee which releases a monthly student newsletter too.
And there are many more such activities that take place in DSNLU

What are some of the things you’d advise to a 1st year aspirant who enters your college?
The University has different types of people with different attitudes, interests, and abilities.
It is you who should decide what you are going to be and how you are going to utilize the resources that are available here.
Many alumni of this university are now successful in various fields of law and its up to the students to follow suit and be better.
