In his application, Purohit relied upon an order passed by the Special NIA Court in 2019 wherein certain restrictions had been imposed on journalists for reporting the case.
However, despite the orders of the court, “almost all leading main stream electronic media channels and agencies have involved themselves into conducting of debates and discussions about the ongoing case in direct contravention to the existing orders”.
He submitted that such reportage which generated opinion on the trial, amounted to contempt of court.
He, therefore, prayed that the permission given to the journalists in the restricted form be withdrawn completely and no presence of media be allowed in the courtroom during the proceedings.
