Good things about the University based on your personal experience

BMS College of Law (BMSCL) was established in 1963 under the aegis of the BMS Educational Trust. It is a private college.

It is affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University (KSLU), Hubli and is approved by Bar Council of India (BCI) New Delhi.

It offers undergraduate and integrated courses in law such as B. Com LLB, BA LLB, LLB and BBA LLB. Admission to all the integrated programmes are based on the entrance-exam conducted by the college named BMSCLAT.

1. It’s a prestigious law institution situated in the heart of Bangalore with a legacy since 1963.

2. The faculty is very well experienced (all of them with a Doctorate or a double Graduation in law).

3.The faculty is very approachable with regard to academics or otherwise, very friendly with the students also.

4. Students are exposed to various seminars, webinars, debates, forum/club activities every week.

5. The college has a designated moot forum to help students participate in moot courts at the collegiate and National level.

6. The college has conducted 6 National moot court competitions till date and continues to do so.

7. Faculty and student seminars are held very often to build an academically rich environment.

8. A beautiful lush green campus with eateries around the street and on campus are available.

9. Art club, social club and literary club, Earth club, are amongst the few clubs in the college. They hold occasional events based on relevancy.

10. College hours are very friendly (9.30 A.M to 2.30 P.M or so depending on your course). Any working professional can also manage the timing.

11. Commendable alumni like Shri. S.N. Sathyanarayana – Former judge, High Court of Karnataka, Shri. B.V Acharya (Former Adv. General of Karnataka) are amongst the few of them.

Bad things about the University based on your personal experience

1. Though there is a placement cell in college that helps you with placements during the college days.
However, placements offered by the college after graduation or any prominent pre placement offer is very limited.

2. Limited funding for extra curricular activities, fests.

3. There is not much prominence given to extra curriculars, be it fests or events like ethnic days. Fresher’s day (it’s understandable to an extent, since it’s a law college)

How’s the faculty?

The faculties are excellent. They are down to Earth and academically very knowledgeable.

They are student friendly and help the students whenever required. Be it academics or otherwise (i.e. personal counseling)

How’s the infrastructure? Mention some of the things that exist.

The existing campus in Basavangudi is an integrated campus of B.M.S College of Engineering, B.M.S school of Architecture along with B.M.S College of Law.

Though its integrated, all the divisions and sectors are located separately.

Spacious classrooms with a library, a moot court hall and a separate auditorium exists along with a common playground in the campus’ centre.

There are various other legal cells present on campus. Its a lush-green huge campus with a beautiful view and the right environment for learning.

How’s your hostel experience?

B.M.S has a combined hostel for engineering, law and other courses on campus. Hostels are hygienic and serve good food to the students.

It’s located right opposite to the campus hence making the college premises easily accessible.

Apart from the hostel there are many PGs in and around the campus for both boys and girls. Few of them include:

1. Cosmos PG for boys: 194, Subbarama Chetty Road, Nettakallappa Circle, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560004.

2. Sam Athithi Pavathi for girls : 4140, 11th Cross, 2nd Main, 80 Feet, Main Road, Near Sita Circle, 4th Phase Girinagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560050.

3. Asharya PG for girls : 9, D.V.G. Road, Gandhi Bazaar, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560004.

You can visit them personally for more clarity.

How are your peers?

On a personal note: My batchmates aren’t really that great. I had a hard time adjusting to the environment since most of them were introverts or judgmental.

I’ve seen batches in my college with great friends but I guess I’m not really lucky!

Seniors are very approachable and juniors are very friendly.

How are the placements in your college?

Placements are the major drawback of this college.

Though there are ample amount of internship opportunities during the college period. However, it’s not the same during or after graduation.

Pre placement offers are also very less in number.

How are the co-curriculars in your college?

Co-curriculars are exceptionally great in my college:

1. BMSCL moot pool helps students attend various collegiate and national level moots;

2. Debate competitions are held very frequently;

3. All kinds of sports activities are encouraged and students are sent for various competitions pan India;

4. Certificate courses are provided very frequently;

5. Various clubs like art club, social awareness club, Earth club, literary club are also very active;

6. A cultural fest called Leviosa was conducted in the year 2019;

On an essence it has a wide range of activities happening throughout the year.

What are some of the things you’d advise to a 1st year aspirant who enters your college?

B.M.S College of law is no doubt one of the most prestigious law colleges in Bangalore and is ranked in A+++ Category by 360 Magazine published in 2013.

This is a great degree to graduate with, provided if you decide what you want to do after your graduation is completed.
