Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) is conducting an online, ‘Value Added Course on Climate Change Mitigation under International Law’, to start from March 15, 2022.

About the Course

The course on Climate Change Mitigation under International Law is scheduled to commence from March 15, 2022, in an online mode.

Course Structure

  • To equip students with the conceptual knowledge of the contemporary developments in the domain of the law pertaining to climate change.
  • To establish how law can prove to be an effective tool in mitigating the effects of climate change
  • To develop a holistic understanding of the socio-economic issues connected with climate change.
  • To develop an understanding of the special circumstances of the third world within the environ-legal framework.
  • To develop an understanding of how clean energy sources can aid in attaining the goals set in normative frameworks pertaining to climate change.

  • UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Climate Change Agreement
  • Emerging Principles in Climate Change Law: Nationally Determined Objectives; Net-Zero emission target
  • Third World and Climate Change: Common but Differentiated Responsibility

Unit 2

Clean Power and Climate Change

  • International Policy on Energy
  • Access to Clean Energy Sources
  • Fragmentation of International Law and Clean Energy (with special focus upon International Trade Law)

Unit 3

Decentralization under International Law for Climate Change Mitigation

  • Nature Based Solutions
  • Special Role of Women in Climate Change mitigation and resilience
  • Indigenous Communities and effects of Climate Change
  • Role of Transnational Advocacy Networks in Climate Change Reporting

Unit 4

Climate Change Induced Migration

  • International Refugee Law and Climate Change: Analyzing the normative framework
  • Analyzing the judicial response on climate change induced migration
  • Effects on the rights of the riverine communities
  • Case Studies on Climate Change induced migration
