Organise lecture series on court craft, guide 15 juniors: Supreme Court’s advice for Senior lawyers

A Bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and BV Nagarathna made the remarks after Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi asked for standard rules for senior counsel appearance during the vacation.

“We want the young generation of this profession to be groomed so that by the time the older generation quits, the young ones are ready. There is a gap. This is the last court which needs to settle all the issues … Every senior lawyer who has 20 years of experience must undertake to guide at least 15 junior lawyers. Of the 15, at least 5 would come up to the mark. The second line has to come, which is substantially missing. Some modalities where you can nurture people (should be worked out),” Justice Rastogi remarked.

Bar Council can organise lectures for junior advocates on court etiquette, presenting cases. You have so much experience, can organise a lecture series. These lectures should also include court craft,” Justice Nagarathna

Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora then said that the last time such a lecture series was organised, it had received very good response.
