Ranaut’s statement was recorded in her cross-complaint against Akhtar raising allegations of criminal conspiracy, extortion and outraging modesty by invading her privacy.
In her complaint filed through Advocate Rizwan Siddiquee, Ranaut alleged that Akhtar committed “serious crimes” against her.
She claimed in the plea that to lower her public image and give a favourable public verdict in support of the co-star, Akhtar allegedly “forced Ranaut to tender a written apology to the co-star” which she claimed was “extortion of an apology”.
Akhtar also allegedly threatened her of “dire consequences” if Ranaut does not deliver the apology;
In view of the allegations, Ranaut sought issuance of process against Akhtar under Sections 383, 384, 387 (extortion), 503, 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (outraging modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
