Varanasi court dismisses BJP leader’s plea to register case against Rahul Gandhi for his Cambridge University speech

The plea was moved by a member of Bharatiya Janata Party, advocate Shashank Shekhar Tripathi leader alleging that Gandhi’s statements made during his speech at Cambridge University were divisive and against the spirit of the Constitution of India.

Judge Ujjawal Upadhyay rejected section 156 CrPC application seeking registration of FIR under the India Penal Code and observed that the statements made by Gandhi were within the scope of right to freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution.
