[West Bengal Post Poll Violence] Calcutta High Court pulls up CBI after lawyer “unaware of facts, unable to assist court”

It is unfortunate that the petitioner is being represented by an Advocate who is unaware as to the facts of the case. He is unable to render any assistance to the Court,” the order passed by a Division Bench comprising Justices Debangsu Basak and Bibhas Ranjan De noted.

The CBI had moved the present application for cancellation of bail of accused Ajoy Bar, Rajesh Sardar, Chiranjit Roy, Sujay Bar, Anup Mondal and Pintu Bar. The accused had been granted interim bail in October 2021 by an Alipore court, which was confirmed in January 2022.

Challenging this order, the CBI moved the High Court in April 2022 seeking cancellation of bail. The pleas were tagged together and listed before the Division Bench on Tuesday.

However, the counsel appearing for CBI was unable to assist the Court with the facts of the case, which did not bode well with the Bench. It posted the applications for further hearing on June 6, 2022.
