Will consider demand for Madras High Court bench in Puducherry: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju

The minister also said that he will look into the request for government funds to set up a National Law School in Puducherry.

We will certainly consider the demand to have a bench of the High Court here. The judiciary will be consulted whether to have a full-fledged bench or circuit bench of the High Court. It will be positively considered so that people need not rush to Chennai for appeal and litigation purposes,” Rijiju said.

He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for lawyers’ chambers at the integrated court complex in Puducherry on Thursday.

During the event, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy also submitted a memorandum to the Law Minister seeking his assistance in securing full statehood for the Union Territory, and for getting the Union Home Ministry or the HRD Ministry to allocate funds for setting up a National Law School in Puducherry.

Rijiju assured that he will consider all the demands positively.

Puducherry Lieutenant governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, Attorney General of India R Venkataramani, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court,  Justice T Raja and several other judges of the High Court and government officials were also attended the event.
