Cisco looks to enhance cybersecurity in ‘critical market’ India with new data centre in Chennai & more

Jaipur: US-based tech firm Cisco Monday announced its plans to set up a new data centre in Chennai, upgrade the existing one in Mumbai, and introduce new security capabilities as part of its efforts to serve more customers in India.

“We are introducing innovative cyber capabilities, expanding our security data centre footprint and continuing to build a dedicated engineering workforce in India to help organisations fortify their defences and catalyse their transformation in the digital age,” said Daisy Chittilapilly, president, Cisco India & SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation).

Speaking at the opening day of the two-day Cisco India Summit 2023 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Chittilapilly said India remains a critical market for Cisco and is its second largest research and development centre outside the US.

She said the new security features introduced by the company will help enterprises tackle the cybersecurity risks in a hybrid world. In today’s hybrid world, organisations are facing a challenge of “lack of visibility” around what their users are doing, what devices they have and the workloads that they access, she added.

“The world is becoming increasingly hybrid and organisations have to adapt quickly. Their success hinges in large part on their ability to tackle the cybersecurity risks that this presents,” Chittilapilly explained.

“As Indian organisations accelerate their journey to the cloud, Cisco is investing in dedicated cloud infrastructure to bring industry-leading security services to more customers in India in a seamless and scalable manner,” she further said, adding that it is towards fulfilling this goal that Cisco has decided to set up the new data centre in Chennai and upgrade the existing one in Mumbai.

The company, in a statement, said that the new and upgraded facilities will bring “agile, highly resilient, high-capacity access” closer to users, including large and small Indian enterprises from across industries.

“This is crucial in today’s hybrid work environment which presents unique cybersecurity challenges as organisations move from a static to a dynamic operating model. This has significantly increased the demand for cloud security,” Chittilapilly said.
