Delhi govt launches scheme to provide financial assistance to RWAs for development of parks

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) The Delhi government on Monday announced a ‘Green Park, Green Delhi’ mission under which Rs 2.55 lakh per acre will be given to each residents’ welfare association (RWA) for the redevelopment and maintenance of parks.

An additional amount of Rs 1 lakh per acre will also be given to each RWA by the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society (DPGS) for the development and maintenance of new parks.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of all MLAs at the Delhi Secretariat regarding the beautification of the city parks that was chaired by Environment Minister Gopal Rai.

Addressing a press conference, Rai said that out of the 16,828 parks in Delhi, 6,345 are currently not being maintained.

“A survey of about 11,500 parks out of the 16,828 parks in Delhi has been completed by 70 teams of the DPGS,” he said.

For the development of parks, Rai said, one in-charge in every assembly, one observer in every two assemblies and two coordinators at the state level have been appointed for training.

Delhi Parks will be redeveloped under the Chief Minister’s Park Beautification Scheme, he said.

Explaining the process of registration, Rai said, “RWAs can apply under this scheme through an online application. They must first select a park in their area and choose any registered RWA to adopt the park. If none exists, they will have to form a new RWA or re-register with an existing RWA.” The RWA will have to be registered on the Delhi government’s e-district portal after its eligibility is verified and it will be mandatory to upload all the required documents.

According to the initiative, RWAs will be responsible for addressing problems related to their parks.

“For the development and beautification of the parks, financial assistance of Rs 2.55 lakh per acre would be given to each RWA by the DPGS.

“Along with this, it has also been decided to give an additional amount of Rs 1 lakh per acre for the development and maintenance of new parks. Along with this, keeping in mind the problem of water in parks, it has also been decided to provide an assistance of Rs 3.50 lakh per acre for the installation of an STP (sewage treatment plant),” Rai said.

Parks that need to be developed have been checked and identified, the minister said. PTI ABU BUN SLB DIV DIV
