President Droupadi Murmu to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on 19 September

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will attend the state funeral of late Queen Elizabeth II to be held in London on 19 September.

She will be in London from 17 September to offer condolences on behalf of the government of India.

As news of the Queen’s passing broke last week, President Murmu tweeted: “In the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of UK, the world has lost a great personality. An era has passed since she steered her country and people for over 7 decades. I share the grief of the people of the UK and convey my heartfelt condolences to the family.”

The late Queen’s coffin arrived in London Tuesday evening from Edinburgh and was kept overnight at Buckingham Palace.

Wednesday will see the first big ceremonial as the coffin will be taken to Westminster Hall on the Parliamentary Estate where she will lie in state till her funeral.

Her eldest son King Charles III will lead the royal procession behind the gun carriage. His three siblings Princess Anne, Princes Andrew and Edward as well as sons Prince William and Prince Harry will walk in the procession.

The Queen’s lying in state will begin for the public to pay their last respects after a 20-minute service by the archbishop of Canterbury.
