Three zoo employees held in Odisha for ‘assaulting’ tourists

Bhubaneswar, May 23 (PTI) Three employees of Nandankanan zoo here were arrested on Monday on the charge of assaulting visitors, the police said.

A group of around 24 tourists from Chhattisgarh, in a police complaint, alleged that staff members refused to take them on a safari ride at the Bhubaneswar zoological park on Sunday although they had booked tickets.

This apparently led to a heated exchange between the two sides, and the employees conducting the safari assaulted them, the group claimed.

In a counter complaint, the zoo employees said that the tourists created a ruckus after they were refused tickets as the deadline for a booking a ride had ended for the day.

The police have filed FIRs based on the complaint filed by the two sides, but no tourist has been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the deputy director of Nandankanan Zoological Park, Sanjeet Kumar, has ordered a probe into the clash.

He has asked the range security officer to submit a report on the incident. PTI AAM RMS RMS
