Vote your ‘people’s government’ again because we deliver, Modi at Manipur poll rally

Imphal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally at Heingang in Manipur on Tuesday and asked the people to vote for a “double engine” government again – a phrase the ruling party uses to denote a BJP government both at the Centre and a state.

Modi said the BJP government in the last five years had set “achievable” goals for the next 25.

Manipur goes to polls in two phases, on February 28 and March 7. In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the party garnered a 34 per cent vote share to the Congress’ 25.

“You have seen the good governance of the BJP and also its good intentions,” the Prime Minister told the people.

Modi urged young and first-time voters to be active participants of the voting process, “a responsibility they must meaningfully undertake,” he said.

Modi said the BJP government’s work in the last five years had earned it the sobriquet “people’s government”. “Congress didn’t understand the people’s suffering, it didn’t rely on your ability,” Modi told the cheering crowd.

He pointed out the difficulties people earlier faced in getting access to the public distribution system. He said 7 out of 10 people get free rations now. “Twenty-two lakh have benefitted during our governance,” he said.

He reiterated that women are at the heart of all BJP development programmes. “We have made electricity and gas accessible to more and more households. 25,000 houses got piped water five years ago. But today that number is 3 lakh,” he said.

No one should be left behind, the Prime Minister said, also listing free housing among his government’s achievements in the state.
