TikTok on the verge of being banned in the US

Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok appeared before Congress over the US lawmakers’ concern about US citizens’ data being accessed by the Chinese Government through TikTok’s user data.

TikTok, the social media platform that dominated the American invention and revolutionized content creation and consumption with the novel short-video format, is about to face a ban in another country, and this time its the land social media was invented – US.

As per Reuters, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy said on Sunday lawmakers will move forward with legislation to address national security worries about TikTok.

Shou Zi Chew was interrogated by the US lawmakers for over five hours, raising questions on the integrity of the platform, execution of fair practices, access to data of TikTok users in US, and the most important concern – TikTok’s alleged ties to the Chinese government, the communist party or any individuals who may have an association with any of the governmental entities from the country.

The hearing did little to no benefit for the existence of TikTok dangling on a deathbed right now. TikTok was recently banned from all government-issued mobile devices, primarily owned by individuals associated with US federal agencies.

Kevin McCarthy, Speaker Of The House, tweeted that The House will be moving forward with the bill that would ban TikTok across US, and in the words of Kevin, it will “protect Americans from the technological tentacles of the Chinese Communist Party.”
