Supreme Court refuses to entertain PIL for guidelines to protect Indians going abroad

The plea was filed by a man who was wrongly detained in Abu Dhabi in October last year, for sharing the same name and date of birth as that of a wanted criminal.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha agreed that the petitioner, a businessman, should not have been detained, but said that it could not entertain the plea.

How can the Ministry of External Affairs be directed to have such guidelines for safe and secure visit of Indians? What will the SOP say, that foreign police shall not arrest Indians? Any citizen going to a foreign nation is governed by that law,” CJI Chandrachud remarked.

The Court accordingly disposed of the PIL.
