Lok Sabha Secretariat reinstates Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal to parliament before Supreme Court hearing

On January 11, the Kavaratti Sessions Court convicted four individuals, including Faizal, for attempting to murder Padanath Salih, the son-in-law of former Union Minister and Indian National Congress leader, PM Sayeed.

The incident was related to a political controversy during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, and all four convicts were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

The next day, on January 12, the convicts filed an appeal before the Kerala High Court and applied for bail during the pendency of their appeal. On January 25, the Kerala High Court suspended their conviction and sentence, leading to an appeal before the Supreme Court for reinstatement.
