Anonymous

Tatva Legal, Tatva House, Plot No. 107A, Rd Number 72, Prashasan Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana 500110

How did you apply for the internship?

I applied at the mail ID provided on the firm’s website (there’s a separate website for the Hyderabad office- www.tlegal.com). The email address is internships@tlegal.com.

One can expect a reply about a month prior to the desired date. Multiple follow-ups are to be made so your application doesn’t get lost in their database. One can even call their office for updates on their application (provided on the website).

First-day formalities, infrastructure, first impression

Situated in the posh locality of Jubilee Hills, the office is a 3-storeyed building, entirely for the Firm. The 1st and 2nd floors are where the Associates and Senior Associates work, with 2 conference halls on the 2nd floor and 2 on the 3rd floor. Partners are on the 3rd floor.

The office is well-maintained, having all the basic necessities that one requires. Separate cubicles for Associates and Senior Associates. Glass-walled chambers for the Partners. All health safety measures are ensured, with air purifiers and COVID Attenuation devices installed. The office has a centralized air conditioning system.

Upon reaching the office, you are greeted by the security guard at the basement who greets you daily and you undergo a temperature check. On the 1st floor is the reception, and the receptionist guides you to the intern’s cubicle (a separate cubicle for all interns near the library).

You are made to sign some documents (Non-disclosure agreement, Personal Information, and Guidelines) and have to submit a photocopy of your college ID.

Once you’re done with the initial formalities, you’re good to go and the associates start assigning you work. The working hours are 9:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M., with a one-hour break from 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. for your lunch.

Main tasks

I got to work with the Corporate (Commercial), Dispute Resolution, and Real Estate teams. The main tasks include research, little drafting, and proof reading.

I was assigned research works under the Consumer Protection Act, Civil Procedure Code, Limitation Act, FEMA, SARFAESI, Companies Act and SEBI Rules.

Work environment

It’s fairly good. The work assigned will keep you engaged for a considerable time. Some days you are flooded with work, while on some days, you kill time playing games on your phone (nobody cares if you’re on the phone).

I got to work on multiple deadlines, which often consumed my lunch break and you might have to stay back till 8-8:30 P.M. on some days to meet deadlines.

However, you may take your break as and when required and nobody would stop you unless you haven’t completed the assigned work. Associates and office boys are friendly. You have little chit-chats during free hours and share your college stories.

Good things

Quality and quantity of work assigned is got to be the best thing. The associates will assign you more work if they like what you did and vice-versa. Infrastructure is another thing which I liked (it’s fairly good considering how old the office is).

Bad things

Little incentive to work here. No PPOs, no call-back internships, no stipend. Sometimes you get stuck with some clerical work assigned by an associate which you can’t deny obviously and if you do, get ready to be judged by the other associates and gossip about you.

You’re not assigned any specific team to work with, which doesn’t make sense in my opinion. You have no choice but to pursue the internship with your area of interest but whatever the firm feels they need help with.

Lacks a coffee vending machine and you have to call one of the office boys and ask him for tea. No eateries nearby. Just a little snack shop selling samosas, pakodas and tea.

Stipend

No stipend. You get a certificate upon successful completion of the internship on your last day.

Details about accommodation and commute

I lived in a hotel-cum-guest house named “Midtown Guest House” in Srinagar Colony, near Road No. 5 Jubilee Hills Metro Station. It was hardly 5 minutes from the metro, with great pock-friendly food options nearby and under a budget (I paid 10k for a month).

You can find PGs in the same area too. Madhapur is another area where you get PGs but are quite expensive. For my commute, I took the metro to Peddamma Gudi and got a Rapido from there to reach the office.

Anything else?

It’s a good place to intern if you’re not looking for placements and have no specific area of interest. There’s no culture of office-outings here which was a let down for me.
