Lawyers’ strikes: Supreme Court directs formation of committees for all High Courts to redress lawyers’ grievances

A bench of Justices MR Shah and Ahsanuddin Amanullah emphasised that strikes by bar associations have time and again resulted in the disruption of judicial work and noted that if any bar member has any genuine grievances, there should be a forum where the such bar can ventilate them.

Therefore, the Court directed the formation of grievance redressal committees at the High Court level, which will consist of the Chief Justice, and two senior judges of the concerned High Court of which one has to be from the bar and the other from service (district judiciary).

“We reiterate that no bar member can go on strike. Time and again but this has happened. If any bar member has any grievance, genuine grievances should have some forum so bar can ventilate its grievances,” the Court said.
