About the Conference
The Department of Law, Gauhati University is going to organize a Two Day National Conference on ‘Gender Equality and Women Empowerment for a Sustainable Tomorrow’ in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), North-East India which is scheduled to be held on June 23 and 24, 2023.
The conference aims to tackle some of the grey issues relating to gender equality and women empowerment keeping in mind Sustainable Development Goal No. 5 (SDG No. 5)
The conference aims to serve as a platform for academicians, scholars, students, civil society organization, etc. to discuss, deliberate and brainstorm feminist jurisprudence and exchange of ideas related to the gender equality and women empowerment for a sustainable tomorrow.
Major themes
Some of the major themes of the said conference include:
- Gender and Sex, Biological perspective and identity issues;
- Women empowerment in tribal communities; States of Indigenous people;
- Reproductive technologies and the Rights of Women;
- Abortion, Bodily Autonomy and Women’s Rights;
- Women in Media
- Women in leadership: Politics and Public Administration
- Men’s role in rights of women
- Role of technology in Empowering women
- Women and Religion: Property and other Rights
- Rights of Migrant women
- Sex trafficking
- Marital rape and sexual violence
- Role of society in curbing gender injustice
- Judicial activism and women empowerment
- Rights of women in conflict zones
- Feminism and nationalism
- Constitutional rights and safeguards provided to the vulnerable groups in India
- Gender sensitivity and Indian justice delivery mechanisms
- Age of sexual consent: Paternalism or over criminalization.
However, it is to be noted that the sub-themes are illustrative and not exhaustive. Entries beyond the suggested sub-themes but under the ambit of the broad theme of the conference are welcome.
Registration Fee
- Academician, Practitioners, Professionals: INR 1,500 per author
- For Research scholars and Students: INR 1000 per author
- Participants without paper presentation: INR 700

Submission Guidelines
- The author shall submit an abstract of not more than 250 words and must include four key words, in italics with the covering letter containing the name(s) of the author, address, designation, institution/affiliation, the title of the manuscript, theme and contact information (email, phone, etc.) The submission must be made to conferencelaw2023@gmail.com
- The length of the full paper should be between 3000 to 5000 words (excluding footnotes)
- In case of co-authorship (maximum two), each author will have to register separately by paying the registration fee. The certificate will be given only to registered author.
- The submission must be original work of the author and must conform to the ILI style of footnoting.
- Any form of plagiarism will lead to direct rejection of the paper.
- The authors name in full paper should be mentioned on the right side of title in Times New Roman Font, 12pt size. All other details should be given as footnotes.
Important Dates
- The last date to submit the Abstract is on May 27, 2023.
- The acceptance of the abstracts will be intimated to the participants on May, 28, 2023.
- The last date of registration is on May 30, 2023.
- The last date to submit the final paper is June 15, 2023.
