Legal Professional, Incorporated (LPI) is organizing a webinar on Legal Research Overview on June 20.

About LPI

In 1929, an idea was formed and initiated to gather together a group of legal secretaries in order to learn what was required in the preparation and filing of legal documents. By 1934, this idea had blossomed and spread throughout the state of California, and in 1940, Legal Secretaries, Incorporated, (also known as LSI®) was formed as a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation.

In 2020, they changed their name to Legal Professionals, Incorporated, (LPI) to reflect their mission to serve all legal professionals in California.

LPI continues to grow by serving legal professionals, including, paralegals, secretaries, support staff, and lawyers, throughout the state of California with a variety of programs and services.

With approximately 1,000 members and members-at-large and 27 local associations throughout the state of California, LPI is dedicated to educating legal professionals and promoting high ethical standards among all legal professionals. LPI’s motto, “Excellence through Education,” is paramount to the goals and objectives of this organization.

  • Legal Research Overview is focused on federal and state court structures, how laws are made, and research strategies. With this focus, attendees will benefit from an interactive dive into understanding court structure and how and why laws are created and will come away with actionable strategies to navigate legal research more.

About the Speaker

  • Bethany S. Ensz, M.S., works as a Legal Research and Analysis instructor at the UCSD Division of Extended Studies. Before teaching, Bethany worked as a corporate paralegal and office manager for Breakwater Law Group, LLP. 
  • Prior to joining Breakwater, Bethany was with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP. She started her legal career with McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (now Dentons). 
  • Bethany graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology, and she earned a Master of Science in Legal Studies from the University of San Diego School of Law. 
  • She earned her paralegal certification from the UCSD Division of Extend Studies, where she was inducted into the LEX Honor Society.
