About the Company

You love details—helping us understand our contracts and requirements of detailed privacy and health care regulations, wrestling with complex requirements, translating their meaning and implications for a broader team, and providing guidance on how to effectively execute in light of them.

Eligibility & Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience at a combination of a top-tier law firm and in house companies
  • Extensive experience wrestling with complex privacy, regulatory, or technology issues for or at tech companies (preferably health tech)
  • You are a creative problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, complexity, and nuance.
  • You have excellent attention to detail.
  • You have a great work ethic, honesty and integrity.
  • You have excellent legal and business judgment.
  • You can translate complex legal issues and risks into understandable concepts the team and other individuals with non-legal backgrounds can execute on
  • You are comfortable having a healthy dialogue around risk and appreciate being challenged on your assumptions, whether it be with internal product owners or outside counsel.
  • You balance risk calculations with business and commercial sense.
  • You take pride in enabling the best work of others on the team. You think ahead to anticipate the needs of your teammates and you give and get all the facts making it easy for others to make decisions.
  • You are driven to be a great partner and forge long-lasting relationships with the people you work across the table from.
  • You can work both fast and right and don’t view them as trade-offs. You understand when things require precision and accuracy and where 80% gets you to the desired outcome.
  • You thrive on being pushed and challenged. You communicate effectively both in written form and live / on your feet – you are not fazed by tough questions in the moment.
  • You operate like an owner and expect others to as well. You take personal responsibility and value personal responsibility in others.
  • You check your ego at the door. You are interested in finding the right answer vs. always having the right answer.
  • You take your work, but not yourself, seriously.
  • You have a law degree from a top-tier law school and are licensed to practice law in your state of residence.
  • You have a record of accomplishments in a remote role or otherwise some sense of your ability to operate effectively without being in a physical headquarters.

Job Description

  • Provide support to our in-house legal team with cutting edge legal analysis and ideas for navigating the complex regulatory environment for healthcare in the United States and abroad – which include HIPAA, the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, CMS Medicare and Medicaid regulations, PhRMA codes, FDA regulation, GDPR, Telehealth and state-level equivalents of those laws, among many others.
  • Work closely with business teams to understand our overall business, how each product works and assist in advising on applicable regulatory requirements.
  • You will be interested in understanding our preferred and fallback contractual negotiating positions and how they impact our products.
  • You are excited by contractual negotiations and are eager to work collaboratively with potential clients to reach compromise positions, but also obtain key rights that are important to our business. As an example, you will negotiate Business Associate Agreements to ensure that we maintain the necessary rights for our business.
  • You are interested in helping businesses inventory and understand their existing contractual language.
  • You are flexible and are excited about the challenge of learning about new areas of regulatory law. You are a fast learner.
  • Partner with our Chief Privacy Officer and Compliance Analyst to ensure that we never jeopardize patient data.
