2nd National Article Writing Competition 2023 at CU, Dept of Law, Journal & Seminar Committee [Cash Prizes of Rs. 3.5k]: Register by Nov 25

University of Calcutta, Dept of Law, Journal & Seminar Committee invites submissions for 2nd National Article Writing Competition 2023. The last date of registration is November 25.

About the Committee

The Journal and Seminar Committee (JSC) is a student-run academic committee of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, committed to regulate, facilitate and promote the spirit of legal research, academic writing and substantive discourse within the realm of contemporaneous jurisprudence.

Although established by name in 2017, the Committee adopted its Specific Rules on 19th June, 2019. Since, the structure of the Committee and its functions thereof were formalised upon ratification of the said Rules.

About the Competition

With the new JSC Academic Year 2023-24, the present Executive Board of the Committee has decided to conduct its 2nd National Article Writing Competition to provide an academic platform for the young and brilliant legal minds of the country to edge and showcase their research, analytical and writing skills.

In the spirit of this competition, we aim to create a platform where legal minds can engage deeply with commercial law, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping economies, fostering innovation, and ensuring fairness in the marketplace.

Under the guidance of our sub-themes, participant(s) can fearlessly deliberate upon contemporary jurisprudential issues with the sphere of commercial law. Topics could range from e commerce regulations and cryptocurrency legality to international trade agreements and consumer protection laws.

Eligibility

The competition is open for all the law students enrolled under any undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral course at any college or University recognised by Bar Council of India.

Submission Specification

  • The length of the Article should be between 1,500 and 3,000 words (exclusive of citations) and should not violate the lower or upper limit.
  • The Article shall be submitted ONLY in MS Word (.doc/.docx) format.
  • The Article shall be in a single-column layout with margins justified.
  • Font: Times New Roman; Language: English only.
  • Title Font Size: 14; Body Font Size: 12; Citation Font Size: 10
  • Body Line Spacing: 1.5; Citation Line Spacing: 1.0
  • Page Margin Spacing: 1″ (Top, Bottom, Left & Right)
  • Citation Format: 20th Edition Harvard Bluebook
  • All references must be in the form of footnotes only.

Submission Guidelines

  • Participants are supposed to express their thoughts on any one of the specified sub-themes only.
  • A participant is allowed to submit a single Article only.
  • Co-authorship is allowed to a maximum of two authors.
  • More than one submission from the same participant (or their co- author) shall not be registered.
  • Usage of unparliamentary words/remarks is highly discouraged and will amount to disqualification.
  • The submission shall not showcase any defamatory thoughts towards any gender, community, caste, creed or religion whatsoever.
  • All submissions must be mailed to nawc.culawjsc@gmail.com. The subject of the mail shall be “SUBMISSION- JSC 2nd NAWC 2023)
  • The body of the mail shall essentially comprise of the following details of the author and co-author:- Name, Name of Institution/University, Year of study, Sub-Theme under which the submission has been made, Contact Details and email Id.
  • No details of the author or co-author must be disclosed in the body of the Article.
  • Submission acceptance is contingent upon mandatory registration.

Fee

The participant(s) has to pay a minimal registration fee of INR 100 (for single authored submission) / INR 180 (for co-authored submission).

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: ₹2000 + Certificate of Merit + Publication in Legis Sententia
  • 2nd Prize: ₹1000+ Certificate of Merit + Publication in Legis Sententia
  • 3rd Prize: ₹500 + Certificate of Merit + Publication in Legis Sententia
  • All participants shall get a Certificate of Participation.
