PIL before Calcutta High Court against Prakash Raj, Arundhati Roy for terming India a ‘Hindu Fascist Enterprise’

A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya was moved by advocate Mita Banerjee highlighting the interview given by Roy to an international news channel in June 2023.

“The author Roy gave an interview to Al Jazeera in June this year and said India has become a Hindu Fascist Enterprise. How can she say such things that too on a channel like Al Jazeera, which is a mouth piece of terror outfit Al Qaeda, which is run by Osama Bin Laden,” advocate Banerjee told the judges.

She further pointed out that actor Prakash too made similar statements on social media platform Twitter now X.

“These are responsible citizens of our country yet they have made such comments. These statements have hurt our sentiments. We Hindus aren’t fascists. In fact, we are taught since childhood that if we protect our Dharma, our Dharma will come to protect us, like Rama, Krishna etc. Thus, we seek a direction for removing their statements from social media platforms including Twitter,” the advocate added.

She further said that both Roy and Prakash cannot call the Indian government a Hindu Fascist Enterprise as it enjoys the mandate of majority of the population.
