MyGov India is organsing Supreme Court Hackathon 2024. The last date of submission is August 31.

About the Hackathon

The primary goal of this Hackathon – 2024 is to explore innovative AI technologies that can be integrated into the day-to-day operations of the Supreme Court’s Registry. These technologies should not only comply with the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, but also bring about a significant positive impact on the Court’s efficiency, accuracy, and overall functionality.

To continue the tradition of brainstorming ideas for resolution of problems, challenges, refinement of workflow, and efficiency gains by the Registry, Hackathon 2023 was organized to explore solutions and ideas.

Theme

Exploring solutions in Artificial Intelligence-based technology for improving and further streamlining the official functions performed in the Registry of the Supreme Court of India.

Problem Statement

Statement-A

Development of an artificial intelligence-based model for extraction of data including metadata, data fields such as name of parties, address, Act, section – legal provisions, subject categories, identification of formats of petitions such as special leave petition – Form 28, Supreme Court Rules 2013, statutory appeals, etc., to facilitate in scrutiny of cases, removal of defects.

Statement-B:

Development of an artificial intelligence-based model for conversational use case chatbot in English and scheduled languages of the Constitution of India, 1950, to answer queries about case-related information, summarisation of judgments, court documents, etc.

Eligibility

  • The Hackathon 2024 is open to Organizations (Firms, Company, Academic Institutions), Startups, and Individual/others in India with expertise in IT and AI.
  • Solutions must be AI-based, unique, innovative, and compliant with Supreme Court Rules, 2013. They must address the problem statement provided and should not have been used elsewhere.
  • Entries must be in English and submitted as prescribed in the form.
  • Incomplete or inaccurate entries, or those submitted after the deadline, may be invalid. Acceptance of such entries is at the sole discretion of the Supreme Court.
  • The Supreme Court reserves the right to permit or restrict participation.

Evaluation Process

  • After the application submission cut-off date, a screening and evaluation committee will shortlist 15 candidates based on their innovative ideas by the Supreme Court Rules, 2013. These candidates will present their proof of concept to the Selection-cum-Screening Committee.
  • The shortlisted candidates will have to be present in New Delhi for the screening with evaluation committee.
  • The event will be divided into multiple sessions, with each participant being allotted specific time for their presentation and proof of concept showcase.
  • Each participant will have 30 minutes for their presentation, interaction, and Q&A session with the Selection-cum-Screening Committee and the Hon’ble Judge In-Charge.
  • Pitches will be evaluated according to predefined parameters.
  • The Selection-cum-Screening Committee will submit their evaluation results to the Hon’ble Judge In-Charge.
  • The Hon’ble Judge In-Charge, in consultation with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, will consider the committee’s views to select the best proposition as the winner of Hackathon 2024 and the runner-up.
  • The Supreme Court’s decision regarding shortlisting is final and binding for all participants.
  • The Supreme Court will score and rank each team based on predefined criteria, with final scores determining the Winner and Runner-Up.

Terms & Conditions

  • The rules are governed by Indian law, and disputes are subject to New Delhi courts.
  • Manipulation or unfair practices will result in disqualification. The Supreme Court can change, cancel, or suspend the Hackathon at any time.
  • The Supreme Court is not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from participation or changes to the Hackathon.
  • The Supreme Court is not liable for any disruptions or cancellations beyond its control.
  • Decisions of the Supreme Court are final and binding.
  • The Supreme Court can alter the rules or terminate the Hackathon without prior notice or liability.
  • Participants agree that the Supreme Court can use submitted responses and details for publications and promotional material without prior approval.
  • No costs will be paid by the Supreme Court for any work carried out by participants during the course of the Hackathon.

Rewards

  • Trophies to the winner and runner-up/s,
  • Participation certificate for the shortlisted candidates
  • Souvenir to the winner/s, runner up/s and the shortlisted candidates.
  • Any statutory taxes, duties, or levies as may be applicable from time to time, arising out/ in respect of such prize, shall be payable by the Winner of the respective Prize.
