Deaths at government shelter: Delhi High Court seeks report from AAP Government

A Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela ordered the Delhi government’s Social Welfare Secretary to personally visit the shelter on Tuesday and file a report before the High Court by August 7, Wednesday.

The Bench also ordered the Delhi Jal Board to test the water facility at the shelter home noting that several deceased people suffered from Tuberculosis.

“A cursory glance at the summary handed over shows that nearly all the deceased suffered from TB. The DJB is directed to test the quality of water as well as the condition of water and sewer pipelines and file a report. The Secretary, Social Welfare is directed to visit the complex tomorrow and file a report… It is clarified that if there are too many occupants at the complex then efforts should be made to decongest it and occupants be moved to another shelter home or an appropriate place,” the Court said.
