Supreme Court stays proceedings against former SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya over daughter’s bigamy case

The Bench was hearing a plea by Maurya, the chief of Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, against an April 12 ruling by the Allahabad High Court.

The Lucknow Bench of the High Court had refused to quash the summons and criminal proceedings against him in connection with a marital dispute involving his daughter.

She and her father were booked for the offences of cheating and bigamy.

This was after a complainant, who claimed to have been married to her in 2019, alleged that she had remarried later without divorcing him.

She had in 2021 divorced her second husband, even as a Lucknow court has now issued non-bailable warrants against her and Maurya, declaring them as absconders.
