Virtual Internship Experience with Umeed India Foundation: Realizing the Harsh Realities of Our Society

Name of the intern

Kanishk Meshram

Name of your college

Dharmashastra National Law University, Jablapur.

Name of the course and year of study

B.A LL.B and 1st semester – 1st year, 2021.

Name and address of the organisation

Umeed India Foundation. I’m doing virtual internship with this NGO.

C-3/24, Street Number 21, Nangli Vihar Extension, Baprola, Delhi – 110043.

Duration of internship

From: 23/10/2021 Till: 18/11/2021

How did you apply for the internship?

I apply for this internship through LinkedIn.

They posted an internship opportunity, and I submitted my details.

They then called me for an interview and I got selected.

First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression

On the 1st day of the internship we had an online induction session with the founder of Umeed India Foundation.

Then from the meeting we got our HR heads and then we introduced ourselves to the HR head and the first day of internship ended.

Main Tasks

We performed 4 main tasks:

1st – Social Work week

In this task we had to visit the nearby slum areas and tell the people about the various government schemes that are available to them and help them get benefit from the same.

Further, we made them aware about education, etc.

2nd – Environment week

We had to plant 5 trees in our nearby area, and the trees had to have some medicated qualities.

3rd – To make people aware about Umeed India Foundation

This was done to get them to increase the followers on Instagram and LinkedIn.

Our main task was to get the 25 followers, and share the username and screenshot of the people who follow them.

4th – To get fund and hire 10 people

This was done in order to increase the reach of the NGO.

Work Environment

I found the work environment quite good. The HR was too supportive and always ready to help us.

Good Things

Good thing about this internship was that I learnt more about the society’s major issue.

I had a great experience helping people living in the slum around my home.

I really didn’t know the harsh realities of the slum people and by the help of this NGO I got to know more about them and it was a great learning for me.

Bad Things

I found a bad thing that in the 4th task they just asked told us that if we wanted a letter of recommendation then we had to get the fund at least 2000 rupees.

I found this very bad because just one task should not decide our whole month of internship.

I must say that they are just selling the LOR.

Stipend

There was no stipend for this internship.

Details about accommodation and commute

No, it was virtual online internship program.

Anything else?

I haven’t received my certificate yet.
