A bench of Justices MR Shah and BV Nagarathna agreed with the submissions of Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta that Singh is a flight risk.
“In terms of serious allegations, it seems that if petitioner is released on interim bail he may be a flight risk, the application for interim bail stands rejected,” the Court ordered.
Singh is accused in the Religare Finvest money laundering case.
Senior Advocate Gopal Jain, appearing for Singh, told the Court that it is a humanitarian plea since Singh’s uncle passed away and his mother was also not keeping well.
“This is a humanitarian plea, my uncle has passed away and my mother had a stroke,” said Justice Shah.
SG Mehta, however, opposed the plea.
“He is accused of liabilities which are ₹2400 crores. He is a flight risk,” the SG said.
The complainant should not be swayed by the humanitarian grounds. This appears to be something suspicious here, he added.
The Court then refused to grant relief while observing that relief had been granted earlier to Singh on account of death of someone.
