‘In Punjab, if someone demands bribe, don’t refuse…’ — CM Bhagwant Mann has a solution

New Delhi: Any complaint about corruption in Punjab can now be sent to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s personal WhatsApp number.

The chief minister will launch an anti-corruption helpline – his own WhatsApp number – on 23 March, Shaheed Diwas.

“In Punjab, if someone demands a bribe from you, don’t refuse. Make a video/audio recording and send it to that number. My office will investigate and no culprit will be spared,” Mann said.

AAP boss and Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “We assure you that strict action will be taken immediately.”

The comedian-turned-politician – the state’s youngest chief minister since the 70s – won Punjab for the Aam Aadmi Party after the ruling Congress imploded under the weight of its own factionalism.

Mann on Thursday addressed his first meeting after assuming charge as chief minister of the state. He urged the state’s civil and police administration to discharge their duties as public servants in “the letter and spirit”.

The AAP railroaded the opposition with its promise of badlaav, pro-people policies and women empowerment. It won 92 of the 117 assembly seats.

Earlier Thursday, former Congress state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted: “Bhagwant Mann unfurls a new anti-mafia era in Punjab with a mountain of expectations. Hope he rises to the occasion.”

Sidhu had repeatedly criticised the Congress administration for glazing over corruption.
