[Climate Change] Delhi High Court asks Central government to file status report on steps taken to meet international commitments

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, appearing for Centre, told the court that government is alive to these issues and not one but three to four committees have been formed to tackle the issue of climate change.

Sharma said that there is a committee headed by the Prime Minister as well which is looking into all these issues.

“They want a committee of experts but the committees are in place. Apart from the fact that we are committed to counter climate change, thee is a national action plan for climate change which is the overarching policy theme. It was launched in 2008… The Central government has embarked upon these plans and states are also asked to initiate steps on climate change,” he said.
