Justice PS Narasimha thanked Senior Counsel P Chidambaram for pointing out that the judge had appeared for Uber when he was a Senior Counsel before his elevation to the Bench.
He then chose to recuse from the case.
“Justice Narasimha appeared for Uber in a case,” Chidambaram said when the case came up for hearing.
“Oh yes, We will list this matter again on May 9, next Monday,” said Justice Narasimha.
Chidambaram also apologised to the Bench for highlighting the potential conflict of interest.
“I am sorry to mention this before the Court,” he said.
“No, please don’t be sorry. I want to thank you for informing me,” Justice Narasimha responded.
Justice L Nageswara Rao, who was heading the Bench, said that the Advocate-on-Record in the case should have informed the same to the Court in advance.
“Mr. Chidambaram you should have asked your AOR to inform the Court,” said Justice Rao.
The matter will be heard next on May 9.
