2 suspected shooters in Moose Wala murder killed in encounter, 3 cops injured — Punjab Police

New Delhi: Two of the alleged shooters involved in the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala were shot in an encounter in rural Amritsar Wednesday, sources in the Punjab Police said.

The sources identified the suspected shooters as Jagroop Roopa and Manpreet Mannu, who had allegedly been on the run for 52 days. Three police personnel who had intercepted the suspects suffered bullet injuries, police sources said.

“The shootout took place in Amritsar. The area has been cordoned off,” a source in Punjab Police said.

Punjab Police confirmed the development in a tweet.

According to sources, the Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force had been tailing Roopa and Mannu.

Moose Wala, 28, was shot dead on 29 May, a day after his security was partially withdrawn by the Punjab government. Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar — a Canada-based gangster and Bishnoi’s associate — have reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Since then, multiple arrests have been made in connection with the case by the Punjab and Delhi Police, including those who allegedly aided the shooters.

Three suspected shooters were earlier arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell — Ankit Sirsa, allegedly the youngest shooter, on 4 July, “main shooter” Priyavrat alias Fauji, and Kashish alias Kuldeep (both on 19 June).
