Mung Bean Sprouts

I have been consuming a lot of sprouts recently. Love how this simple bean become much more nutritious when they are sprouted. I have been adding it to salads, stir fries. Specially i love it with my fruit salad, i will post that tomorrow. Making sprouts at home is not at all a big deal.

It is so easy to make, i have been buying sprouts from shop all these days. But when i discovered the art of making it at home, i never go back to the supermarket stuff. You can sprouts any whole bean of your choice. You can consume these sprouted beans even raw or in salads. They are so protein rich substance to add to your diet.

Method 1: Mung Bean Sprouts Step by Step

Find the best quality moong bean..

take a cup of bean in a bowl

wash it throughly

now cover them with fresh water

cover them with a lid and let it soak

till they double in size

now drain them

Add them to a hot case or any container

leave it overnight to sprout

How to Grow Bean Sprouts at Home (Chinese Sprouts)

I have already shared a recipe for how to sprouts beans. Few days back i decided to make some international dishes and many of them called for this bean sprouts which are long. I wanted to try it at home and i made it. It was so good, they were crunchy and really tasty too..it is pretty easy and healthy to make at home.

Ingredients for Making Bean Sprouts

Organic Green Gram / Moong Bean – ½ cup

Steps to Make Bean Sprouts

Step 1:

Wash and soak moong bean in water overnight. Drain them.

Step 2:

Line a sieve with clean cloth and put the moong bean on it in a single layer. Now take a large container, place a small bowl in the bottom and place this sieve into the container. Cover with another cloth and put a lid partially covered. Let it sprout overnight.

Step 3: 

Next day wash it well and put it again in the container. Keep doing this for 7 to 8 days until the moong beans are nicely grown. Now remove it from the cloth and remove the roots and leaves and use.

Method 2: Beans Sprouts (Chinese Method)

Take moong beans and soak it in water overnight

now it has become soft

drain them completely

take a sieve

line it with a clean cloth

place the moong beans in a single layer

take a large pot, place a small bowl in the bottom

now place the sprouts on top

cover with another clean towel

cover it and set aside for a whole day

next day you will see small sprouts coming from it

now wash it well

place it into the pot and cover again

you can remove the roots and use in cooking..You can remove the leaves too, but i like to leave it on..

  • If you don’t have a hot case. You can put them in a clean cloth and tie them. Now keep them in side a clean bowl and leave them overnight,
  • if you want longer sprouts leave them out for a more time.
  • Always store them in an air tight container in fridge.
  • Drain the soaked bean completely before putting them in the hot case.
  • You can follow this method to make sprouts with any bean like channa, mochai, peanuts, urad dal..But the soaking time with vary.

 
For Long Bean Sprouts

  • Washing moong bean daily is much. If you can wash in the morning and evening.
  • You can harvest the moong sprouts from 5th day onwards.
  • Remove the roots, but you can keep the leaves.
