Bombay High Court seeks response from Eknath Shinde government on plea challenging stay on appointments, schemes of Thackeray government

Advocate SB Talekar, for the petitioners, highlighted that the decision of the Chief Minister to stay projects and schemes, especially those taken in the interest of Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Backward Classes was arbitrary, unwise and politically motivated.

He pointed out that as soon as Shinde was sworn in as Chief Minister, he decided to change all committees and administrative decisions taken by the Uddhav Thackeray government, including appointment of members.

It was argued that the chairman of these committees was now the Chief Minister who is a guardian minister.

Interestingly, the CM Shinde was a member of the earlier cabinet when these GRs had been issued, Talekar pointed out.

He alleged that the new members that may be appointed would not be for their merits but for their affiliation to the new government.
